Writer's Award

I  had the privilege to witness the Sujatha Awards 2011 this Tuesday. The opportunity came knocking at my doors when I met my colleague 'Prabhu Shankar', a good fan of Tamil writing in our office cafeteria around 4:45 PM that evening. He was all set to call it a day to leave for this function which was to happen in 'Devaneyapavanar Aragam' at 6:00PM. The venue surprised me a little since I hadn't heard of it before. But it happens to be the place where I had gone very often.

I have been to the British Counsel Library in Mount road many times. In its entrance, I have noticed a Tamil library but never managed to find its name. This hall is just inside it. Even though I haven't read much in Tamil, I had a good time listening to all those speeches from the big writers sitting on the podium.

Actress Rohini anchored the event. I could recognize only 'Madan' and Manushyaputhiran on the podium. Later I heard about all the rest of the big writers on the podium. I could recoginze Manushyaputhiran since Prabhu showed him few months back when we went to check a small book exhibition in Eliot's beach. I took a photo for Prabu with Manushyaputhiran. Actor Parthiban was sitting in the front row with no one paying attention to him. Rightly, Sujatha's wife and son were felicitated with a place in the podium. Awards were presented for various categories of Tamil writing which included best short story, best novel, best website, best magazine etc..

Prabhu finally took a pic with the writer  Charu Nivedita . Its would be a another memorable pic for him.

Here are a few of those pics.
