Blooming Supermarkets

Nobody will deny that shopping has taken new dimension with the advent of Supermarkets. Chennai has been flooded with quality supermarkets in the last decade from big brand names like Aditya Birla's More, Reliance's Fresh, RPG's Spencer's Daily, Future Group's Big Bazaar,  Nilgiris along with many little ones.

A new supermarket has already won the hearts of many in a very quick time. It is the "Star Bazaar", a venture from Tata group. It offers a variety of products at a reasonable price. I had a visit to it the other day and I was awed by this wonderful market. It is located in the heart of the city near Choolaimedu in Poonamallee Hight Road in the SkyWalk Mall.

The highlight of the market is the non-veg section which is the best of all the supermarkets I have ever been.

It has many varieties of fishes along with mutton and chicken. Mutton and chicken were show cased in different prices based on piece type and cuts. Many feel that they are cheaper and  of good quality. I have started buying from this bazzar's non-veg section every week now.

Chicken's varieties included 'chicken whole skinon',  'chicken curry cut skinless', 'chicken boneless', 'chicken legs' etc.

Mutton's varieties included 'mutton kidney', 'mutton crump chops', 'mutton brain', 'mutton dog food', 'mutton mince', 'mutton curry cut', 'mutton leg whole', 'mutton biryani cut' etc.

It had variety of sea food including crabs, squids and prawns. Fishes were organised beautifully in ice based on varieties with a price tag attached to each.

The bazaar also has separate sections for electronic items, electrical items, dresses, shoes apart from the regular grocery items.

Like most supermarkets, they offer membership cards to retain their customers. They have a separate customer help section outside the market. I showed them the bills and received my membership immediately after my first shopping. We had to fill some details for the same. Points for the amount shopped gets added to the card. They give a point for every `200 spent which can be redeemed later.

Another candidate has joined this retail race lately. It is Nature's basket from Godrej group. It is already selling joys for many Mumbaikars and I can't wait for its debut in Chennai.
